The Margaret L. Williams Developmental Evaluation Center has been providing on-site trainings to providers since 2006. The trainings seek to support children with learning challenges, especially children with autism spectrum and other related disorders, in community settings. This is a free outreach service that has helped educators, librarians, child care providers, etc., adapt their programs to meet the needs of those who may learn and /or behave differently. The intent of this program is to enhance everyone’s success in participating in community based programs.
In addition to the on-site trainings, the MLW/DEC offers an interactive puppet workshop about autism. This free workshop is designed to help children and adults understand and embrace individuals who learn differently, particularly children with autism spectrum disorders. The workshop uses the Kidspeak curriculum which is ideal for children ages 6-9 and is compatible with the New York State common core for first through third grades.
The Margaret L Williams Developmental Evaluation Center (MLW/DEC) provides services to families with young children (birth – 7 years) at risk for or with developmental disabilities. Since opening in 1982, the Center has specialized in serving children with complex developmental difficulties with a special focus on autism spectrum disorders.
